I Woke Up In A Foreign Land

I Woke Up In A Foreign Land
For one of my projects in the Netherlands, I wrote and illustrated a Poem, which I then printed in a leporello(an accordion book) format. The poem and the visuals were inspired by my time in the city of Utrecht; but I chose to write the opposite of how I felt there. While I felt completely at home in Utrecht, I wanted to present the point of view of someone who didn't.
I first wrote and then illustrated a poem about a boy who woke up in a foreign land where he didn't belong at all. Everything from the faces he saw to the trees was different. He couldn't find anything familiar, that reminded him of home. Until...... his very idea of home changed.
Experiments with Light
After making my watercolour illustrations, I tried putting them in front of different lights. Even though I was happy with how the illustrations looked as independent images; in print, along with a poem, they looked better without the lights.

Printing
After finishing my illustrations, I scanned them in, placed them on InDesign along with the Poem and printed out the Leporello.
Finished Leporello
Below is a flip book that gives an idea of the flow of the visuals and the poem.
